On Friday, Sept. 29th our school focus was on the Calls to Action for Truth and Reconciliation. We remember the children. Our day started with a staff smudge, followed by a school-wide reading by our grade 8 students of The Orange Shirt Story by author Phillis Webstad. Our Land-based students from grade 6 presented to all classes a puppet play about residential schools. Our classes worked on a whole-school art project for a star blanket. Students were encouraged to complete a section of the star blanket that represented them.
Our staff and students were dressed in orange to commemorate this day. We encourage our staff and students to wear orange shirts every Friday during the year to remember the children, and to show that Orange Shirt Day happens all year long. Thank you to our families for continuing the conversations at home about the Calls to Action for Truth and Reconciliation.
